How to embed a custom GPT into a website

If you built a custom GPT on OpenAI’s GPT store, you might have a few questions about how to get it out of, so to speak, OpenAI’s Walled Garden.

Now the temptation to be, shall we say, BULLIED into staying in OpenAI’s closed Kingdom is high. I mean, it’s EASY right? But if you want to put your GPT into your website, you’re going to need to find an easy way to add it as an embedded iframe. And OpenAI does not let you do that.

Fortunately, there are a lot of solutions. A recent forum conversation on how to embed a GPT into your website surfaced a few examples of how people are doing this. And that’s what we’ll get into today.

The basic of this process are pretty simple. You’ll want to move your GPT over to a different platform, and then copy + paste the embed code. You’ll be able to embed your GPT as an iFrame, a javascript embed, even a FAB (floating action button).

It’s super simple. Let’s dive into how.

Step 1

Go to OpenAI GPT Store where you’ve made your custom GPT. Find the GPT you want to embed.

What we’re going to do is copy this GPT over to a new platform. That’s pretty easy actually!

Simply click on the GPT’s name to bring up a dropdown menu. Now go to “Edit GPT”

Step 2

Next we’re gonna copy the instructions of the GPT. This is the GPT’s secret sauce, the instructions telling it how to behave!

Click on the “Configure” tab of your GPT.

Then go the section labeled “Instructions“. Copy this!

Step 3

Now we’re gonna copy and paste this GPT over to a new platform! There are tons of good AI no code platforms for building GPTs. Some of our favorites are Botpress, Interaxai, and Pickaxe.

In many platforms there is an easy place to paste in the instructions. For example, in Pickaxe it’s just called the “Role”.

Paste in your GPT instructions here!

Step 4

Now that you’ve recreated your GPT in a platform that allows you to embed it and white-label it, the final step is to get the embed code and put it on your website!

To do this just click on “embed”, customize what you want it to look like, and then copy the embed code!

Step 5

Now that you have the embed code, paste it into your website wherever you want to host it! Adding embed code is fairly simple for most sites like Wix, SquareSpace, & Webflow it’s fairly easy to add the code. Here’s an article on embedding GPTs on Wix, Squarspace and similar platofrms.

You’re done!

And that’s it! You’ve now embedded a custom GPT onto your website!
